A Western-style room blending culture from across the sea, and throughout the ages
Tradition and innovation often come together in Kyoto, where there is also a fondness for the novel and the stylish. The city is a treasure trove for Western-style architecture that gained a foothold during the Meiji period. The populace of Kyoto is also fond of breads, pastries, and coffee. Ume-no-ma (literally the ‘plum room’) is the only Western-style room at Kikunoi. The room is adorned with beautiful stained glass, and the table, chairs and the Persian rug are all from the 1800s. The view of the Japanese matsu pine tree in the garden is curiously harmonious with the room, and creates an illusion of residing in a Western-style house from the Meiji period.
